Tate McRae shot to fame after she appeared on So You Think You Can Dance in 2016 and started putting original music on her YouTube Channel. She signed with RCA Records in August 2019, and her breakout song “You Broke Me First“ became an international hit. She became a household name when she released her viral single “Greedy.” Now, her tours are selling out quick and she’s one of pop’s main It girls.

She owes much of her music experiences to her relationships telling Vogue in 2023, “Over the past year and a half, I made a lot of decisions based on intuition and what I was feeling in my heart. And that resulted in some of the most beautiful relationships and passionate times of my life, and I fell in love so hard, but I went through experiences that were very unpleasant too, and felt the repercussions of that approach harshly. When you lead with intuition, you feel the consequences 10 times as hard.”

The Kid Laroi (2024 – present)

They questioned if the shirt was really hers, and it turned out to be The Kid Laroi’s. The two kept it very low-key in the first couple months of dating when they were spotted holding hands at events like the 2024 NHL All-Star Game and the Super Bowl.
The Kid Laroi made it publicly official when he was performing in Dublin in April 2024. “I need everybody in here to sing this as loud as they can because my girlfriend’s here tonight, and I don’t want to look lame,” he said as she was sitting backstage. The two have appeared together on red carpets such as the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, and with Tate McRae’s album coming out, she took the opportunity to release a duet with her boyfriend.
“I feel like the person you are in a relationship and the person you are in the studio as an artist are very different,” she told Rolling Stone. “We were a little nervous singing in front of each other.”
She elaborated more in an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe saying that she “wouldn’t look at him” while they sang together because she wasn’t used to their new dynamic as collaborators, explaining, “It’s like a mental thing where I just feel like he’s never heard me sing, and I like to pretend that he doesn’t know I’m a singer, but he does obviously know I’m a singer.”

Cole Sillinger (2021 – 2023)
Tate McRae dated professional hockey player Cole Sillinger from the summer of 2021 to 2023. The Columbus Blue Jackets athlete met her through mutual friends, but he also admitted that she was his celebrity crush before they even met.
“He’s one of my brothers’ friends’ friends so it all worked out,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “It was really funny — I was like ‘I can forever hold this over you till the day you die, that I was your celebrity crush.’”
The two appeared to break up in early 2023 when Sillinger deleted Instagram posts featuring the couple together. Sillinger denied cheating rumors after she referred to their relationship in her song “hurt my feelings.” “She wears your number, but I got what you like / She’s got you right now, but I’m still on your mind.” When an Instagram account accused him of cheating, he wrote in a comment, “All false my guy.”

Jonny Hader (2019 – 2021)
Tate McRae’s first public relationship was with Jonny Hader, an investment banker. He also served as the camera operator and cinematographer for her “You Broke Me First” music video. The two called it quits in the summer of 2021, and the song “Feel Like Shit” was about the falling out of their relationship.
