If you want the short answer: U.S. viewers can stream Rick and Morty Season 9 on Hulu or HBO Max. Hulu currently lists all nine seasons, while HBO Max has a dedicated Season 9 page. If you only want this season, Hulu is generally the cheaper monthly subscription; HBO Max makes more sense if you also want its wider HBO, Warner Bros., DC, and Cartoon Network catalog.
You can also watch selected episodes through Adult Swim, buy Season 9 digitally, or use a live-TV service carrying Adult Swim. But now that the finale has aired, most cord-cutters should not pay live-TV prices solely for Rick and Morty.
The best option for most U.S. viewers
My recommendation is simple:
- Cheapest subscription for a full-season binge: Hulu with ads.
- Best ad-free choice if you will use the wider catalog: HBO Max Standard or Hulu Premium.
- Best if you want permanent access: Buy the digital season rather than maintaining another subscription.
- Best for occasional Adult Swim viewing: Check Adult Swim’s website or free marathon first, but expect some episodes to require a participating TV-provider login.
At the time of my latest check, Hulu says it has nine seasons and 91 episodes of the series. HBO Max also lists Season 9, with U.S. plans starting at $10.99 per month. That makes a regular streaming-library plan much better value than subscribing to a $60–$90 live-TV bundle just to catch up.
U.S. options compared
| Service | What you get | Current starting price | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hulu | All nine seasons currently listed | Check current offer; Hulu’s displayed price can vary by plan or promotion | Cheapest full-season binge |
| HBO Max | Season 9 plus the broader HBO Max catalog | $10.99/month with ads | HBO and Warner Bros. viewers |
| Adult Swim website/app | Episodes, clips, and a free 24/7 marathon; some full episodes are locked | Free, or TV-provider login | Sampling before paying |
| Prime Video digital purchase | Season 9 in HD | $24.99 for the season or $2.99 per episode when checked | Keeping the season permanently |
| Sling Orange | Live channels, including Adult Swim/Cartoon Network availability that should be confirmed by ZIP and lineup | From $4.99 for a one-day pass | A short live-TV window |
| YouTube TV | Adult Swim through the live Cartoon Network feed, plus DVR | $82.99/month before temporary new-customer offers | People who already want live TV |
| DIRECTV | Live-TV packages and Adult Swim access, subject to package and location | Five-day trial currently advertised; regular packages cost far more | Trial-eligible live viewers |
Prices exclude tax and can change. Promotional eligibility, channel lineups, and trial lengths vary, so check the checkout screen—not an old search result—before entering payment information.
What I found testing Hulu, HBO Max, and Adult Swim
I test streaming services with the same questions a cord-cutter actually asks: Is the episode available yet? Are subtitles present? How many ads interrupt it? Does the app remember my position? And can I cancel without digging through five menus?
Across Hulu and HBO Max, playback was reliably sharp at up to 1080p on supported devices, with usable English subtitles and a much cleaner experience than unofficial streaming sites. HBO Max had the more polished browsing experience for moving between seasons. Hulu was the more economical destination when the goal was simply to watch Rick and Morty and leave.
Adult Swim was useful as a free first stop. Its Rick and Morty page offers full episodes, extras, and a 24/7 marathon, but the padlock matters: some episodes require authentication from a supported pay-TV provider. The free marathon also does not let you choose any episode on demand. It is a bonus, not a dependable replacement for a complete season library.
The biggest lesson from tracking Season 9 week by week was not to assume “next day” means the same thing everywhere. Live-TV recordings appeared fastest because they captured the Adult Swim broadcast. Hulu and HBO Max followed their own rolling streaming schedule, and regional HBO Max services sometimes released episodes on a different timetable. Before paying for one particular episode, open the service’s Season 9 page and confirm that the episode tile is actually there.
Case study: the cheapest way I could watch the finale
For the finale, I compared three routes: a five-day DIRECTV trial, a Hulu trial, and one month of HBO Max.
The DIRECTV trial was the fastest live option for an eligible new customer. It cost nothing if canceled within the trial, but the downside was significant: the service automatically converted to a paid live-TV package if I did nothing. That is an expensive mistake for one 20-minute episode.
The Hulu trial was the better binge option once the relevant episodes appeared in Hulu’s library. It gave me the rest of the series as well, but eligibility depended on account history and plan. Hulu does advertise trials on select services, not a universal free trial for every visitor or bundle.
The HBO Max month was the simplest paid option. There was no cancellation countdown measured in days, Season 9 had a dedicated page, and I could use the rest of the month for other shows. At the current U.S. entry price of $10.99, it was much cheaper than accidentally rolling into a full live-TV bill.
My conclusion: during the live broadcast, a trial could be the cheapest path for a disciplined, eligible viewer. Now that the season is complete, Hulu or HBO Max is the better default. If you dislike subscription churn and expect to rewatch the episodes, the $24.99 digital-season price I found on Prime Video is also reasonable—it costs more today, but does not require an ongoing membership.
The cancellation trick that prevents a “free” trial becoming expensive
Set two reminders as soon as you enroll: one 24 hours before renewal and another several hours before it. Screenshot the cancellation confirmation and keep it until the next billing date passes. Also check who bills you. If you subscribed through Apple, Google, Roku, Amazon, or another third party, cancel through that provider rather than assuming the streaming app controls the charge.
Can you watch Season 9 free on Adult Swim?
Sometimes—but not in the way most people mean by “watch the whole season free.” Adult Swim offers a free Rick and Morty marathon and may unlock individual episodes. Other full episodes display a lock and require a cable or live-TV login.
Start there if your budget is zero. If the exact episode you want is locked, compare one month of Hulu or HBO Max with a digital purchase. Avoid search results promising every episode free with no login. Unlicensed sites commonly use deceptive play buttons, aggressive pop-ups, tracking scripts, and counterfeit download prompts. They also do not compensate the people who made the show.
Is an ad-free plan worth it?
For one quick binge, probably not unless ads genuinely ruin the experience for you. Season 9 contains ten episodes of roughly 20–23 minutes each, so the premium for an ad-free tier can be hard to justify for a single weekend.
Choose ad-free if you plan to watch earlier seasons too, share the account within the service’s rules, or use the rest of the catalog. Note that “no ads” plans can still include promotional material or ads in certain live and linear programming. Read the plan details before upgrading.
How to watch in Europe, the UK, Canada, and Australia
Rights differ by country, so do not assume a U.S. Hulu recommendation applies abroad.
Europe
HBO Max is the main Season 9 destination across many European markets. Adult Swim’s European promotion announced new episodes on HBO Max on Mondays. Availability and pricing still vary by country, so use the local HBO Max page to confirm Season 9 before subscribing.
UK and Ireland
HBO Max launched in the UK and Ireland in March 2026, changing the older advice that sent viewers to Channel 4, Sky, or Now. Season 9 streamed on HBO Max, and the UK service currently advertises plans from £5.99 per month. Older articles may reflect the previous rights arrangement, so check their publication date.
Canada
Season 9 premiered on STACKTV, which carries Adult Swim live and on demand. STACKTV currently advertises a seven-day trial followed by CA$14.99 per month through participating providers, including Prime Video Channels. It says on-demand episodes typically appear within 24 hours, but also warns that some shows have limited episode windows. Confirm that all ten Season 9 episodes remain available before starting a trial.
Australia
HBO Max is the straightforward option in Australia. Its Australian listing shows all nine seasons, and Season 9 premiered there on May 25, 2026. The local site currently advertises plans from AU$9.99 per month. Again, use the Australian page rather than a U.S. price comparison.
What about VPNs and travel?
A VPN can improve privacy and may make your connection appear to come from another country, but it does not create streaming rights. Using one to bypass a region restriction may violate a service’s terms, and access is not guaranteed. HBO Max says customers can stream while traveling in countries where the service is available, with the subscriber’s home country tied to where the account was created.
The cleanest approach is to use the service licensed in your current location, download episodes before an eligible trip where the app permits it, or buy the season from a digital store available in your country.
Catch up before Season 9—or the spinoff
If you are behind, Hulu and HBO Max are the easiest U.S. catch-up options because both currently list the series through Season 9. You do not need to rewatch every episode to understand the new season, but revisiting the recent Evil Morty, Rick Prime, and family-story episodes will make the serialized callbacks land better.
There is also a Rick and Morty spinoff, President Curtis, in development. A firm release date should be checked separately rather than inferred from Season 9’s schedule.
Bottom line
For U.S. cord-cutters arriving after the finale, Hulu is the price-first recommendation and HBO Max is the catalog-first recommendation. Try Adult Swim’s free options before paying, buy the season if you want permanent access, and use a live-TV trial only when you genuinely need the live channel and can cancel on time.
Whichever route you choose, verify three things on the day you subscribe: the exact Season 9 episode list, the renewal price, and the cancellation deadline. Streaming rights move faster than a portal gun.
